Hi Steve, you captured a lot of my angst in this note. I quickly changed my mindset shortly after starting on Medium. I had the intent of rewriting some of my earlier stuff from other sources, but then found Medium was a good place to practice. i started with motivational pieces, moved into essays, write too much poetry, and am now back to essys and prose style again, which is probably where I belong.

I think you are a great story teller Steve. You might add Donald Hall's, Essays after Eighty to your desk pile. i just finished it, again, and love that style of writing. i also like the David Sedaris story telling as well.

I haven't found the serialization an effective tool on Medium. A guy I follow, PG Barnett, wrote a number of serializations of a good character on Medium, but I think they get lost in the daily intensity of the site. No one lingers, you just scroll, find something to read, and move on.

I also go back and rewrite my older stuff on Medium as I learn more. I am just about through an MA in Creative Writing and have found my old stuff needs work, which I recycle here as I rewrite it again. Good practice and keeps up the volume.

Think essays my friend, you are already headng down that path and your work lends itself well to that life rethought angle.

Thank you Steve, thoughtful post.
