Hi Tom, I have family who cringe when I mention I write poetry, especially when they have seen my business books. They ask why spend so much time writing stuff you may never show anyone? Answering your question Tom, I think any creative writing is like finding a treasure buried in the mud, only revealed by exposure and a deep cleaning. I write to dig into the mud, where I so much agree with you, much is hidden, but most of us are too lazy to explore our own lives, fearful to dig because of what we might find. Fear? Lack of self awareness? Don't want to know? Maybe Maslow was right, self actualization is a gift and a burden.. And yes, once written the treasure now sits on my shelf in my brain, much easier to visit when I need a few minutes looking within. Thoughtful note Tom, sorry I gave back such a long answer. T
