My Life Is Melting Away
Me and my buddy the snowman waiting for spring
Neighbor kids, with the help
of several day drinking dads,
built a snowman I can see out
my window. I like this snowman,
he looks like a guy I could sit with
in a bar and share a few cold drinks
with on a lost Saturday afternoon.
Tall guy, no traditional top hat for him,
this man of hand packed snow wearing
a red ball cap on backwards, a matching
red tie with polka dots. huge, round eyes,
hockey pucks I think, but still the turned
up carrot nose, his mouth black squares
of cloth pinned to his head by long, rusty
nails, a jagged smile, but he seems friendly,
a well-rounded snow belly and muscled arms
made from broom sticks wrapped in foam
and covered in sleeves from a red flannel
shirt which didn’t make it to the Good Will.
He has been there for weeks, a life time
for a snow man I think, the kids long
ignoring him, so he stands alone staring…
