My New Life Began at Sunrise

We cry for a new life, but we waste the fresh beginning we are given every morning

I stood on the beach waiting for the sunrise.

The ocean dark, then on fire as the sun emerged from its watery sleep.

We cry for a new life, but we waste the fresh beginning we are given every morning.

We sleep, and the past that consumed us can no longer touch us.

What has been in life can never be again; a past that was ours but now gone.

We pray for another chance, this time promising next time we will get it right.

Yet still we hide and ignore the dawn, the fresh beginning ours to grasp.

Today I can be who I was meant to be.

Awake, and waiting for the sun, is life waiting to start again.

But this time I can look forward, and change, grow and find my future.

As the warmth of the sun finds me on the sand, I know there is no past that can touch me, no fear of my future that can destroy me; just this day, this life now, and a chance to begin again.

Eyes open and heart on fire, this sunrise is the gift we have begged for on our knees from the universe, without hope, without faith, and buried from a past we won’t let go.

My life began again when the sun touched the sky and kissed the waves.

Long years, too many years, but my life began today.
