The Last Time for Everything

A poem about finding your life in today

There will be a last time,
the last hug with the one who was your life,
the final touch of your child’s cheek and a tear of goodbye.

The lingering, last parting between old friends.
There will be a last “I love you,” meant to last 1000 years,
and there will be the last touch of a hand that has been yours for life.
There will be a time for the last call to someone needing your forgiveness, one who has hurt you but can’t live without your love.

We don’t know when these times come to us,
when it is our turn to savor the last of everything.
But I live as if it is my last goodbye,
I hug as if there is no tomorrow for me,
I never forget today is perfect for just being today, and may be all I ever have

There will be a last time,
and I leave nothing left undone in a world where we believe we live forever.
I am ready to say goodbye because I lived in my today

There will be a last time for me but I find peace having lived my life one glorious day at a time.
