The darkness shrinks you, but you are enough to find the light

Personal darkness reduces your essence,
slowly you fade into a nothingness,
a shadow of someone who used to be you.

A gathering shroud of bleakness,
then the last touch of the light
on your soul, your senses flee,
not even able to feel your own heart
or remember the one who was once you.

Then you believe you are nothing,
blind, no matter how you strain
to see, or be seen, nothing in your
being can pierce the wall of numbness
always between you and the ones
you love.

Hope fades, you reach your hand
towards its fleeting memory,
those mornings when you still
believed it would get better,
you would heal, but the last
of it is too far gone to touch.

Love fails, your hands can never
penetrate the wall of gloom, can never
feel the touch of those so close to your heart,
their warmth dies within your…
